King Charles Bust
Inscription
A bust of King Charles I was erected on the Square Tower after his safe return to Portsmouth from Spain in 1623 having failed to marry the Spanish Princess. The original bust was destroyed during the Civil War; this one dates from about 1660 and was brought here for safe keeping. The bust now on the tower is a replica.
