John Baptist de la Salle was born in Rheims, France on April 30th, 1651. He was ordained as a Priest on 9th April 1678 and died on the 7th April, 1719. He was beatified on the 19th February 1888 and canonised on the 24th May 1900. St John was proclaimed Patron of Christian Teachers on May 13th, 1950.
 
"Take even more care of the young people entrusted to you than if they were the children of a king". These words of John Baptist de la Salle remind all of us, of whatever age, to respect one another's dignity as unique individuals.
