UNDER THE GOOD PROVIDENCE OF ALMIGHTY GOD
THIS ROYAL COLOUR, PROUDLY HELD IN TRUST
FOR HIS BELOVED KING GEORGE V
WAS RESCUED FROM THE RUINS OF THE
ROYAL NAVAL BARRACKS CHURCH
WHEN DESTROYED BY THE ENEMY ON MARCH 10TH 1941
IT REPOSES IN THIS CHURCH UNTIL IT SHALL
REST PERMANENTLY IN A RE-BUILDED
"VICTORY" CHURCH

According to the Guide to St Ann's Church, these colours were '....flown by HMS Revenge, flagship of Admiral Sir Charles Madden, when the German Baltic Fleet was escorted to Scapa Flow at the end of World War One'
