According to the 1873 Guide to the Church this memorial was originally sited in the North Transept, an area now largely occupied by the organ. It is believed that the memorial remains in situ behind the organ.

SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF LIEUT-COLONEL SAMUEL WILLIAMS OF THE ROYAL MARINES, WHO SERVED HIS KING AND COUNTRY WITH HONOUR AND FIDELITY FORTY-TWO YEARS, AND DIED THE 16TH DAY OF DECEMBER, 1824, HIGHLY RESPECTED, IN THE 59TH YEAR OF HIS AGE.
