Location

There are two plaques associated with this memorial. One is lost whilst the other is unfixed and at the time of publication was leaning against the southern wall in the chancel.

Memorial to the Black Sea Fleet

Inscription 1
D.D. RICHARD WILLIAM FORD
MAYOR OF PORTSMOUTH

Inscription 2
TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY
OF THE OFFICERS AND MEN OF THE
BLACK SEA FLEET WHO FELL IN 1854-55.

Further Information
The actions of 1854-55 were the Crimea War.

These plaques were fixed to one of the nave benches. The shape of the latter seems to suggest that it may have been fixed to the back of the bench, whilst the D.D. plaque may have been placed on the end of the bench in the same way all the others in this section were fixed. The 1873 Guide does not mention the D.D. plaque but the hand written ledger does, although it does not indicate where each is located precisely.
