Further Information
Lieutenant John Maurice Fisher, Royal Navy, was 22 years of age when he was killed whilst serving aboard HMS "Good Hope" off the Chilian coast. He is casualty no. 2871098 on the CWGC register. He was born at Dehra Dun U.P., India and is remembered on the PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL where his name appears on Panel 1 (see photo).
HMS "Good Hope" lost all hands in the Battle of Coronel. It had initially been hit by the third salvo shot from the Scharnhorst and sank shortly afterwards. For a full description of the action see www.firstworldwar.com/battles/coronel.htm
Second Lieutenant Cecil Eric Haig Fisher, Royal Engineers, was 20 years of age when he was killed in France. He is casualty no. 187150 on the CWGC register and is buried in SAILLY-SUR-LA-LYS-CANADIAN CEMETERY (Grave ref. II. G. 143.). He was born in Guildford and educated at Cheltenham College.
Both names appear on the Roll of Honour at St Simon's Church.
Their father is listed as Brig. Gen. J. Fisher, C.B., late 2nd King Edward's Own Gurkha Rifles (The Sirmoor Rifles) living at "Sirmoor," Shortheath, Farnham, Surrey. Their mother was Mabel Edith Fisher (nee Haig).
