This Chapel was consecrated by Bishop John Baptist Cahill,
Second Bishop of Portsmouth, on Friday 16th May 1902,
as a memorial to his predecessor,
and dedicated to those chosen by him,
to be Patrons of the Diocese of Portsmouth,
Our Lady Immaculate and St Edmund of Abingdon

Bishop John Vertue is buried in Highland Road Cemetery.
