Location
In the John Wesley Gardens at the junction of Copnor Road and London Road. The memorial is towards the South-West corner, by a gate onto London Road.

NEAR THIS PLAQUE STOOD A MIGHTY ELM BENEATH WHICH JOHN WESLEY PREACHED DURING HIS MINISTRY. THIS ELM DIED EVENTUALLY AND IN THE CENTRE OF ITS SHELL THE YOUNG ELM NOW GROWING WAS PLANTED BY THE FOLLOWING IN THE YEAR 1909.

Further Information
The gardens were once part of the Hilsea Garrison Church and the plaque originally stood close to St Barbara's Church. In 1971 the original plaque was stolen but was eventually replaced in 1977 with a near exact replica.
