Further Information
Alfred Wilder Jerrard was appointed as Headmaster of the newly re-founded Portsmouth Grammar School in 1879, moving into a brand new school building on the Cambridge Road roundabout and appointing a completely new staff to assist him. Jerrard worked phenomenally hard to raise academic standards in the school and to foster a community spirit amongst his pupils, encouraging school sports, music and debating. He died suddenly in 1893 aged only forty-two.
