Further Information
Godfrey Charles Brian Parish was born in 1897. He served in the Royal Garrison Artillery between 1915 and 1920 holding in 1920 the rank of lieutenant. He appears later to have attained the rank of Captain but I can find no record of when. He was the youngest ever person to be appointed a Colonial Secretary. He died of yellow fever in Bathurst on the 19th December 1934 and it was recorded in the Straits Times that "it is thought that the disease was bought to the colony by airplane". Whoever cut his memorial didn't know the difference between and Indian and an African elephant!
