Further Information

Reverend Baldey was instrumental in the creation of St Simons using much of his own money for the construction. He had formerly served at St Judes, but as Southsea grew, that church became too small and several alternative sites for new churches were sought.

By the 1860's the urban spread had reached Victoria Road South and was growing up from South Parade. The new site for St Simon's was located on the edge of farmland at the northern edge of the South Parade and the church itself was consecrated in 1868.
