Further Information
By 1810 the church was in a poor state of repair and although much effort was expended by the Rector Reverend Edward Tew Richards to restore the church he was constantly thwarted by the Lord of the Manor John Deverell. Rebuilding was achieved in two stages with the chancel finally being completed in 1875

The architect of both the new chancel and the rebuilt nave was G E Street, who had also re-ordered Wymering church and supervised the restoration of the Garrison Church in Portsmouth a few years before. He went on to become one of the most successful architects of his day, and St Andrew’s church is generally admired in the literature. His parents were married in the church in 1815, and the window in the north wall, depicting the wedding feast at Cana of Galilee, was dedicated to them.

Oddly, for an architect, GE Street managed to include a spelling mistake in the text for his parents ('church' was spelt 'churh'.
