Location
Adjacent to the south-west corner of the church.
 
Description
The cross has an eight sided base on which are inscribed the names of 84 men who died in World War 1. Some of the names are not clear as the stone work is showing signs of weathering.

JOHN ELLIS - nobody by the name of John Ellis is listed by the CWGC as having lost their life in WW1. There is however a WJ Ellis who was from Waterlooville. He was Officer Steward L/7838 aboard HMS Ardent which was sunk on 1st June 1916.

Died: 1st September 1914, killed whilst manning the 13 pounder gun of C Division, L Battery at the Affair at Nery during the retreat from Mons.
Possibly son of Frederick Phillips, landlord of the Leopard Inn, Purbrook.
Buried: Nery Communal Cemetery.

Died: 7th November 1918, Age 38, after receiving gun shot wounds during the capture of Baghdad. He was mentioned 5 times in despatches having served in the Boer War, with the Egyptian Army, in India and in France. Son of George Lynch-Staunton JP and Margaret Hasler Lynch-Staunton of Purbrook
