Further Information
Philip Varlo (the elder) is recorded by Robert East as being a grocer and having lent £100 to the Corporation in 1733; this to discharge debts. Philip Varlo (the younger) served as Mayor of Portsmouth on 5 occasions between 1764 and 1776.
