Further Information
On 25th October 1787 the bank of Grant & Burbey opened for business at No. 46 High Street. The founders were Thomas Grant senior, William Grant and Richard Burbey. Details can be found on the Banking in Portsmouth page on the History in Portsmouth website. It seems probable that George Grant was involved in the family banking business but we do not know the relationship between Thomas, William and George.

George Grant was the father of Elizabeth Kitson who is memorialised alongside her husband John Kitson on another plaque in the Cathedral. A second daughter, Mary Anne Grant is remembered on a plaque adjacent to that for her father.
